How to Gauge Your Kitchen Sink?
Many people don't know the difference between a 16, 18 or even 20 gauge thickness of stainless steel. Even fewer people can tell you what gauge their kitchen sink is.
The thickness of stainless steel is commonly specified by a traditional, non-linear measure known as gauge. The larger the gauge number the thinner the material, the smaller the number the thicker the material is and therefore more heavy duty and durable. 20 Gauge sinks used to be more common in the previous years, but eventually the standard minimum thickness for a quality kitchen sink became 18 gauge.
Lottare's B&B series sinks are the perfect balance of value and quality with no sacrificing style. Next, the 16 gauge sinks are typically used for higher end projects or where durability and longevity are a must. The true advantages to a thicker sink are that it lessens the chance of dents, dings, scuffs and scratches.
At Kitchen Zip, we only offer 18 gauge and thicker sinks. Our premium Lottare 16 gauge sinks are often used in luxury applications where the customer's tastes are truly discerning.

Kitchen Zip - Are You Modern?
Modern Elements make up the totality of new Kitchen Designs.
From sleek stainless steel lines to versatile yet functional faucet art, the pieces that combine to make a cohesive design statement are often centered around modern aesthetics.
The rustic quaintness of traditional kitchen design is fading away and being steadily replaced by a desire for all things modern and industrial. The stark functionality of commercial kitchen appliances is playing a direct role in shaping the new modern attitude towards kitchens. Pull down faucets, zero radius sinks, and stainless steel counter tops are just a few of the influences we are seeing cross-over from the restaurant kitchen to the home kitchen. Utility no longer has to be dull and boring, but instead can be inspiring and vibrant.

Kitchen Zip - New Kitchen Trends
Kitchen Trends for 2014 & 2015
The hottest products for this year and beyond! The major trend in kitchen color is mixing light and dark finishes. For awhile now, the antique white finishes and dark ebony tones have been very popular. Now we are seeing a mixture of the two extreme aesthetics and, as a result, many people are mixing dark counter tops with light colored or white cabinetry or vice versa. The trend seems to be gaining a hold as top designers and designer magazines are showcasing this style consistently now.
The dominance of double bowl sinks in kitchen design has come to an end and now, throughout the industry, we see a monumental shift towards single bowl kitchen sinks. As the single basin sink trend moves forward, the addition of apron or farmhouse style sinks has rooted. These popular throwback sinks are not only visually pleasing, but also serve a utility in not getting the underlying cabinetry wet from dish washing and general sink use. The zero radius design has been gaining traction, as people are drawn to the modern styling, while also getting more space from these commercially inspired sinks.
With the increase in single bowl and zero radius sinks we have noticed a decided leaning towards the industrial flavor of kitchen hardware. Gone are the old trapping of traditional fixtures and now people are demanding ,commercial-style hardware and fixtures to fill their kitchens. Pull-down, spring-coiled faucets are a noticeable plumbing fixture that are now becoming more and more commonplace. Not even reminiscent, but almost carbon copied from the restaurant style faucets these eye catching conversation pieces are now the center piece of an accomplished kitchen design. Brands such as Blanco, Vigo, and Lottare, all have popular models of this style kitchen faucet.

Kitchen Zip - The Materials that Matter
Most people go day to day without considering the materials that matter in their life.
Whether it is the simple curve of the stainless steel sink or the angular design of brass bathroom fixtures, we interact with these materials on a daily, hourly even momentary basis. These materials are the composition of what surrounds us and envelopes our world with convenience, utility and luxury. From the natural long lasting qualities of granite to the shiny chrome dipped finishes of metal we are affected and effect our world with the materials around us, the materials that matter.
When you go to pick out an item to put in your house, one that will be there even after you might move on, what do you think about? The look, the finish, the style, the price? But do you think about the material? The core of the item's genesis, the very essence of the product you hope to have installed. This material could be one that will last forever or it may be one of dubious origins that will rust, fade or crack down the road.
Knowing what your buying and why your buying it are the most important concepts for any serious home fixture shopper. The grade of stainless steel in your sink can make a major difference between having a clean bacteria free kitchen and having one filled with unwanted pests. Anything short of 304 stainless steel can possibly harbor bacteria and other nastiness, so make sure you get nothing less. People often take for granted the safety elements involved when picking out products for their home because they are simply not focused on what matters, the materials.
