Kitchen Zip - Pull Down Faucets

The commercial design trend has found its way to kitchen faucets.

Most people are familiar with pull out faucets, but a growing number of kitchen faucet models are designed as pull down styles. There are advantages to both, but pull down styles normally have more height and reach. the aesthetic value of a pull down faucet is usually found in its commercial appeal.

Most restaurant kitchen utilize a pull down design because one its more convenient and two it gives the washer more flexibility when it comes to positioning the faucet nozzle. The convenience comes in the form of the nozzle being right where the washer needs it, so releasing the nozzle means that it is simple hanging waiting to be used.

People who wash larger pots and pans find that a pull down style faucet makes it easier for them to use and distribute the water. This directional value with the added height make for the best of both worlds. Almost all of the pull down faucets offer a nozzle arm that, while not in use, holds the spray nozzle in place. Also most designs incorporate a spring or coiled faucet hose that allows for omnidirectional movement.

Now the combination of utility and form bring the convenience of a commercial style faucet to the home kitchen.

Kitchen Zip - Kitchen Faucet Tutorial

The Ins and Outs of a Kitchen Faucet

Knowing how it all comes together to deliver your water is insightful and can help in a pinch when maybe something goes wrong.

Most of the information below can also pertain to a bathroom faucet with a few minor exceptions.

The basic design of a kitchen faucet consists of 4 elements:

1. The Base
2. The Spout
3. The Hoses
4. The Handle

Most current faucets utilize a ceramic disc cartridge to ensure a lifetime's worth of use. The cartridge regulates the flow of hot and cold water by volume. In the past ceramic wasn't the preferred material to use and often these inferior parts wore out over time. Now brands like Blanco, Lottare and Vigo all use the ceramic disc valve and as a result you can expect your faucet to outlast your house.

 New Innovations = New Possibilities

The digital world has taken over our lives in so many ways in the kitchen won't be forgotten. Up until now the most technology in any kitchen faucet what they need the surface and not visible to the common consumer now companies such as KWC offer electronic faucets quick touch on and off as well as remote control.

The concept of not having to touch the faucet has also been pioneered were you simply wave your hand near it and a faucet turns on and off. Luxuries such as these are becoming more and more common and the concept behind it is not just novelty but one of functionality. If one's hands have raw chicken on them touching the faucet can transfer the bacteria to the faucet and potentially cause an unhealthy cross contamination. Touch on and no touch on faucets help eliminate this possibility.

KWC is one of the major brands that has pioneered some of these new electronic features we are now seeing in many different faucet brands. KWC is a Swiss design division that specializes in kitchen and bathroom products. Their ONO Touch series of faucets offer remote control and one touch operation.

The blue, orange and red lights on the remote faucet control indicates whether the water temperature is cold, warm or hot.

New innovations in other fields means that new technology will occupy spaces its never seen before. It starts with a TV screen in a refrigerator door and before you know it there are remote controlled faucets and faucets with built in lights.
